Ceiling fan installation in Louisville, KY
The Tenant Turn installs ceiling fans for homes and rentals in Louisville, KY: we take down the old fan or light fixture, hang the new fan on the existing box, and test every speed and light before we leave. It goes on the same visit as your TV mounting and door repair, so bring us the whole list.

Ceiling fan installation in Louisville with The Tenant Turn is billed at the same $75 an hour as every handyman job, with a 2-hour minimum. We replace an existing fan or light fixture where the wiring and ceiling box are already there. Buy the fan yourself or have us pick it up, materials at cost plus 10% with the receipts.
What's covered
- Replacing an old ceiling fan with a new one
- Replacing a ceiling light with a fan
- Fans with a light kit, remote or wall control
- Balancing the blades so it doesn't wobble
- Swapping a fan for a light fixture
- Checking the ceiling box before we hang anything
What we do on a ceiling fan install
We turn the power off at the breaker, take down the old fixture and look at the ceiling box. A fan hangs from that box all day, so it has to be one made to hold a fan. If yours is a plain light box, we tell you before we start and quote the swap, rather than hanging a fan that will wobble loose.
Then we assemble the fan on the floor, hang it, wire it to the existing wires, set the blades and light kit, and test every speed, the light and the remote or pull chain. We clean up before we leave.
Picking a fan size for the room
The right fan depends on the room. As a rule of thumb, a fan with a 29 to 36 inch blade span suits a small room up to about 75 square feet, 36 to 42 inches suits a room up to about 144 square feet, 44 to 50 inches suits a room up to about 225 square feet, and a big living room or a covered porch wants 52 inches or more. Check the box for the fan's rating, and tell us the ceiling height when you send the request, because a low ceiling needs a flush-mount fan rather than one on a long rod.
What it costs in Louisville
We charge $75 an hour with a 2-hour minimum, the same rate as our drywall repair and every other handyman job. Fans bought at the store are materials we install; if we pick one up for you, it is billed at cost plus 10% with the receipt. Bigger projects are quoted by the job before we start.
Do the fans while we're there
A new fan in a freshly patched and painted room looks right. If the ceiling has a stain or a crack from an old fixture, we can patch it and paint the room on the same visit.
What this doesn't cover
- Running new wiring or a new circuit where there is none (an electrician's job)
- Cutting a new hole in the ceiling for a fan in a new spot
- Heavy fans that need a structural brace you do not already have
Those need a specialist. We will tell you when a job is one of them and point you to someone good.
Questions
Is it difficult to install a ceiling fan?
Hanging the fan is not hard. The part that goes wrong is the ceiling box: a fan needs a box rated to hold it, tightened to a joist or brace. We check that first, every time.
Can you replace a light fixture with a ceiling fan?
Yes, as long as the wiring and the box are in the ceiling already. If the box is not made for a fan we say so before we start and quote the swap.
Can you install a fan I already bought?
Yes. Most people do. Leave the box and all the parts in it, and if anything is missing we will tell you what before the visit.
How do I know if I can have a fan where my light is?
If there is a ceiling light there now, the wiring is almost always in place. Tell us the room height and what is there when you request the quote, and a photo of the fixture helps.
Do you install fans on high or vaulted ceilings?
Tell us the ceiling height and whether it is flat or vaulted when you request a quote. We confirm before we book.
What if my fan wobbles?
A wobble is usually an unbalanced blade, a loose blade bracket or a box that is not rated for a fan. We check all three.
How much does it cost to install a ceiling fan in Louisville?
Our labor is $75 an hour with a 2-hour minimum, the same as every handyman job, and a fan swap is billed on that rate. The fan itself is yours, or we pick it up and bill it at cost plus 10% with the receipt.
What size ceiling fan do I need?
For a room up to about 75 square feet, 29 to 36 inches. Up to about 144 square feet, 36 to 42 inches. Up to about 225 square feet, 44 to 50 inches. Larger rooms and porches take 52 inches or more.
